Ice Hockey is called by many the fastest game on earth. It is an extremely physical sport. The areas of the world where it is mostly played is in North America, and in particular Canada. Also it is a very popular in the northern states of the Former Soviet Union and in northern Europe. Some children learn to use ice skates only at a few years old.  The National Hockey League or abbreviated and known as the NHL is the organization that hockey teams join to participate in active competition. In Russia it is called the Kontinental Hockey League. The International Ice Hockey  Federation is the official prevailing body for international ice hockey, otherwise known as IIHF. It is the IIHF which runs international events internationally. Seventy three countries are in the IIHF.

As we are all aware, Montreal is a French speaking area. As so much French is spoken there, the Montreal Canadiens are also know by French names such as Le Tricolore, Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge,  Les Glorieux (or Nos Glorieux),  La Sainte-FlanelleLes Habitants, Le CH and Le Grand Club. The team also has an English nickname of the Habs coming from “ Les Habitants”. Being on the eastern part of Canada, the Montreal Canadiens are participants of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference  of the National Hockey League  also known as the NHL. The club's authorised name is le Club de hockey Canadien. Another French epithet for the team is Les Canadiens (or Le Canadien),

Boundless counts of gifted players come through the statuses of the Montreal Canadiens. Now that over a hundred years have passed in their knowledge, the Canadiens constantly have one of those players zoom to the head of the class and ends up as the club’s chief scorer.

Being the longest nonstop functioning professional ice hockey team and the only active NHL club to precede the founding of the NHL in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens are one of the oldest North American professional in sports franchises. The Montreal Canadiens record precedes any other Canadian franchise other than football as well as every American franchise outside of baseball as well as the National Football League’s Arizona Cardinals. Being one of the original six teams, the franchise uses “Original Six”as a description for the teams that made up the NHL from 1942 until the 1967 growth. The last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was the season of 1992-93.

Stanley Cup Championships

No other franchise has won the Stanley Cup more times than the . When NHL teams became the only ones to contend for the Stanley Cup, the Montreal Canadiens have won 24 finals, 22 of them since 1927. Bases on a percentage, as of 2014, the franchise has won 25.3% of all Stanley Cup challenges contested after the Challenge Cup era. Behind only the Boston Celtics it makes them the second most effective professional sports team of the traditional four major sports of Canada and the United States. The Montreal Canadiens are Canadas's NHL hockey team.

Founded by J. Ambrose O’Brien on December 4, 1909, as a charter member of the National Hockey Association, The Canadiens were, the predecessor to the National Hockey League. Composed of francophone players, it was to be the team of the francophone community in Montreal. It soon became under francophone ownership. They didn’t fare so well the first season as they came in last. George Kennedy of Montreal became the owner after the first season and the Montreal Canadiens fortunes radically improved since then. In the 1915-16 season, the team won its first Stanley Cup championship. Led by Howie Morenz in 1917, the Canadiens formed the NHL with four other NHA teams. During the 1923-24 season, they won their first NHL Stanley Cup. For the 1926-27 season, the team relocated to the  Mount Royal Arena.

In 1930 and 1931, the club began the decade magnificently with Stanley Cup wins. Unfortunately during the Depression, the club and its then Montreal rival, the Montreal Maroons, declined both on the ice and economically. I guess you can say they literally " hit the slids". Gains plummeted to the place where the team owners deliberated on trading the team to Cleveland, Ohio interests eventhough local investors were found to keep alive the Canadiens, the Maroons suspended operations, and quite a few of their players relocated to the Canadiens.

The  (NHA), which had been founded in 1909 in Renfrew Ontario, after the delay of operations of its predecessor organization, the National Hockey League was organized on November 26, 1917 in Montreal, Quebec. Through a series of extensions, shrinkages, and moves, it started with only four teams (all based in Canada)/ now it is composed of thirty robust franchises. Although the league has now been bi-national since 1924, the "nation" cited to by the league's name was Canada, when its first team in the United States, the Boston Bruins, started to play. The cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season was due to a one hour management dispute. That led to the league being resumed and playing under a new shared agreement that incorporated a salary cap. Highest achievement in terms of sponsorships, audience turnout, and television audiences happened in 2009. The Montreal Canadiens are truly Montreal’s favourite, better known as the Montreal Champs!
